You or someone in your family may be bound by emotional or compulsive overeating, feeling unfulfilled in your career or relationships, feeling lost after the death of a loved one, or just may need someone to talk to about changing direction in your life. With the support and guidance of an experienced counselor for your teen, women’s issues or parenting can help you navigate and overcome your challenges.
Janet believes that hope can change your world, even when you do not know what to do next. She helps you when you are at a loss for effective parenting ideas, or experiencing grief, anxiety, depression and life circumstances that are overwhelming.
Janet believes in the resiliency of the human spirit, helping you to identify personal strengths and solve problems. She creates a warm and accepting environment to help you feel empowered, build confidence, cope with pain and emotions, reframe irrational thinking, and learn ways to communicate more effectively. She is a gifted Diagnostician, who can quickly and accurately assess, ensuring an accurate treatment plan. Her career spans many years helping parents with young children, teens and adult children when everything they knew was no longer working. She develops a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients and families, aligning with those who choose to lean into their faith, as well as those who choose not to
Janet uses evidence-based practices in her work with teens, parenting and women’s issues: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy in her approaches, along with Mindfulness and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. Her philosophy to her work is summarized in her favorite reading:
“I am not a fixer. I am a caregiver, not the cure-giver. I have been given the task to hear those who need to be heard. It is my place to be present with those hurting. I cannot take away the hurting. There is meaning and value even in pain. It is my place to support and encourage people as they struggle to find that meaning and value. I grieve with those who have no one to grieve with. But I cannot bear everyone’s pain. I instead give it to God and ask for the strength to make a difference by giving those who despair a safe place to allow their souls to cry.” -Anonymous
