Sam is an accepting, warm and supportive therapist, approaching each client with consistency, kindness and compassion. As a trauma competent therapist, Sam enjoys guiding her clients in helping themselves and removing the lens that influences negative self-talk and challenging her clients in a safe and structured way. Through promoting advocation and empowerment, her clients find a voice.
Therapeutic Approach
Sam establishes an individualized and warm environment for each client, where she will utilize evidence based treatment modalities from a holistic perspective to best help her clients find their journey toward healing. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people overcome negative self-talk, challenge negative thought distortions, and learn healthier ways of coping. She believes in the empowerment of meeting the client in their moment of pain, helping them navigate their anxiety or depression and realizing the resilient and capable person that they are.
She believes in the importance of meeting the client where they are, helping them cope with their anxiety or depression, and leading them to see the resilient and capable person they can be. Sam utilizes Solutions Focused Therapy to assist clients to focus on where they want to be now, not where they have been. Solutions Focused works best for those who are goal oriented and wish for more short-term therapy.
By utilizing a holistic approach to therapy, she treats the whole person and understands the many different relationships and environments that influence the wellbeing of the individual, whether child, teen or adult. For families, Sam utilizes a family systems, strengths-based approach to establish cohesion and communication health within the entire family.
Education, Professional Memberships and Trainings
Sam earned a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Kansas State University, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas as an Integrated Health Scholar, specializing in Children and Adolescents, African American Families.
In her current post-graduate work, she has developed services for new moms experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression, and enjoys working with children and adolescents.
She is currently only offering telehealth therapy.
