Are you ready for change in your life? You may be struggling to balance your personal life and responsibilities at work or school. Your relationships may be suffering as a result, and you may feel stressed and overwhelmed by it all. Jake hears you and is here to support you as you approach your challenges, helping you uncover your resilience and develop the skills you need to navigate and improve your life.

Jake works with tweens/tweens, young adults/college-aged students, and adults, providing individual and couples therapy out of our Lee’s Summit office. Some of his counseling areas of focus are working with people experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, bipolar, and relationship issues.

Therapeutic Approach

Jake is kind, humorous, and generous, wearing his heart on his sleeve and approaching others with realness and authenticity. Jake uses a collaborative, strengths-based therapeutic approach in his work with clients. He implements various strategies, including techniques from CBT, SFBT, EFT/Gottman, and the Community Resilience Model (CRM), which focuses on helping clients increase resiliency during adversity and develop self-care skills to promote their ability to understand and manage their reactions to the things happening around them. He also emphasizes exploring an individual’s attachment style to foster insight into how one behaves and connects platonically and romantically. Jake helps people see they have the qualities and strengths to help themselves and get through whatever they are struggling with while also helping them develop new skills to support sustainable and long-lasting change in their lives.

Education & Training

Jake received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology, minor in Sociology, at Columbia College. He also completed a master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Clinical and Mental Health at Stephens College.

Jake is clinically supervised by Amber Schilb (License #: 2016017032) and works out of our Lee’s Summit location.
