Play therapy

Marisa provides child counseling, utilizing play therapy, and teen counseling for teens struggling with relationships, academic performance and ADHD. If you are looking for counseling for your child, Marisa engages the child, or teen, and the family system to promote effective change. She helps individuals and families explore and make sense of their experiences to discover what is holding them back from living the life they want. Whether your child or teen is struggling with anxiety, depression, or phase of life issues or needs a safe space to open up and talk about their life, Marisa cares and is ready to join them in their journey of healing and change.

Marisa is genuine and caring and strives to help her child, teen and family clients overcome life’s hurdles and feel more confident in their ability to grow and live happier, more fulfilling lives. She supports her clients in feeling more empowered and successful by helping them gain new perspectives and develop skills to cope and move through life’s ups and downs. She leads with empathy and understanding and believes your child or teen deserves to be heard and know they matter.

Therapeutic Approach

Marisa emphasizes building a strong connection and therapeutic relationship with the children and teens she works with. She provides a supportive, safe environment where people feel understood and validated. She wants her clients to leave sessions feeling more hopeful, self-assured, and motivated to make changes toward living a healthier life.

Marisa approaches her work from a client-centered and family systems lens, exploring her client’s inner world while examining how relationships, family and friends, work/school, and other systems influence their life. She uses play therapy techniques to assist her clients in processing their experiences and understanding how their thoughts, feelings, and choices affect their life.

Education & Training

Marisa finished her undergraduate at the University of Kansas in 2018 and her Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is available to schedule counseling for your child, or teen counseling, at our Johnson County location.
