With over 30 years of experience working with children and families, she has developed expertise helping individuals overcome the adversities they have faced to find hope and joy once again, including overcoming childhood trauma with EMDR, peace and harmony in parent-child interactions, relationship satisfaction and improved family enjoyment.  Teresa is currently training a new Therapy Dog, Rafi Rose, to provide animal assisted therapy throughout Embark Counseling.  While Rafi is in training, you will see her periodically in the office, wearing her Therapy Dog in Training vest.

Teresa’s current clinical focus is training professionals in utilizing Play Therapy and EMDR in their clinical practice.  She is also passionate about the ethics of professional counseling and finds fulfillment in providing business coaching and consultation for emerging clinical professionals. She has provided clinical guidance and leadership as a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor in Missouri and Kansas, as well as specialized training, supervision and consultation for clinicians all over the world in Play Therapy and EMDR.

Teresa has extensive experience as a trauma competent child and family therapist, providing services for children, adolescents, couples and families.  As a client-centered attachment-focused clinician, she has successfully provided clinical therapeutic services for children and their families, from a family systems approach, watching children and parents improve daily functioning and family dynamics.  She primarily utilizes Play Therapy and EMDR in her clinical work.

For clinical supervision, Play Therapy Supervision and EMDR consultation, Teresa provides a developmental approach to develop insight of clinical skill and integration of theory.  She is a board approved clinical supervisor in Missouri and Kansas, for those pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (MO) or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (KS).  Individual and Group supervision and consultation is available.  If you would like to work with Teresa, please contact her here to see if we would be a mutual good fit.

For Play Therapy Supervision, Teresa currently provides individual supervision and group supervision.

Teresa provides EMDR Consultation for EMDR trained therapists pursuing certification.  She provides individual and group consultation. She also leads a specialized EMDR group for trained therapists integrating EMDR and Play Therapy.  Members must have completed Play Therapy Certification and be EMDR trained.

Teresa received her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from Fort Hays State University, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in Guidance and Counseling, with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy.

Teresa has been featured on local media as an expert in attachment parenting and providing engaging experiences for optimal child development.  She also is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Counseling Psychology Department.  Teresa also provides business consulting for clinical professionals thinking of starting a private practice, wanting to grow and scale their private practice, as well as providing strategic concepts to improve your practice’s overall functioning and ongoing development.
